There has been much talk of wood being a poor choice for this type of machine. Those that have used the proper type and size of wood, or built this kit, know better. They would pitt their machines against metal counterparts without hesitation. Design, of course, plays a large role, and this design is very rigid. Wood has been the material of choice for accurate foundry patterns for decades. It goes right back to using the right size and kind. The problem is, is that it's hard to find, and many builders don't have the wood working knowledge to even know what to look for. The wood in this kit produces a very stable platform. The advantages of using metal, for the increase in price of about 300%, is negligable. This is a hobby type machine, that far outperforms it's hobby price!
